Carbonatites are igneous plutonic rocks with a carbonate content of over 50 wt.% (typically calcite, dolomite, or rarely natrite carbonate). Their high carbonate mineralogy makes them not only geologically unique, but also valuable raw materials for phosphate and rare earth extraction. For these minerals to be further processed in the laboratory, pilot plant, or on an industrial scale, the rock must first be reduced to a defined grain size through a comminution process.
