Operating principle of ball mills

Like all grinding media mills, the ball mill's principle is based on the continuous movement of the grinding media and the material to be ground. The grinding media—either in the form of balls or cylinders—move within the drum along with the material to be ground. This results in repeated impacts between the grinding media and between the grinding media and the inner walls of the mill. The material in the gaps is efficiently ground by this impact, making this process particularly suitable for materials with brittle fracture behavior.
